Main Event is now in the money

After running pocket tens into his opponents pocket aces, Daniel Lamberti was all in preflop against two players.  On a [Qh][Kc][6s] flop, Michael Mizrachi bet and his opponent folded.  The hands were revealed:

Michael [Kc][9c]
Daniel [Jc][7c]

Daniel would need to go runner runner to survive.  The [3h] left Daniel drawing dead, and when the [Qc] hit the river, Daniel was already packed up and ready to go.  He wished the table good luck and headed to the rail.

A video of the hand will be posted shortly.

Ladies Event - $235 No-Limit Hold’em Final Results

2012/2013 WSOP Circuit Africa
Ladies Event - $235 No-Limit Hold’em (Friday, February 7, 2013)
34 entries / $6,596 prize pool

The Ladies Event is a special event on the WSOP Circuit Africa schedule, in that it awards a gold pendant rather than a ring.  This year’s WSOP Circuit Africa Ladies Event is even more special in that there were two repeat Ladies Event final tablists in Chandra Deib and defending champion Pippa Rockas.  Here are the final table participants and their starting chip counts:

Seat 1: Lizelda Goslin - 58,600
Seat 2: Janet Blinn - 8,000
Seat 3: Pippa Rockas - 25,400
Seat 4: Chandra Deib - 29,400
Seat 5: Sascha Dreyer - 20,000
Seat 6: Sarie Lloyd - 40,500
Seat 7: Debbie Pollard - 16,300
Seat 8: Zita Rei Bohm - 18,400
Seat 9: Ann Moodley - 25,500
Seat 10: Cindy Naidoo - 18,800

Janet was first to hit the rail when she missed a monster draw.  Janet got all in on a 7QA♣ flop holding JT for straight and flush draws against Chandra’s AT♣.  The turn and river showed no love for Janet when it came 5♠4♣, and she was forced to exit the tournament in 10th place.  Janet is married with 3 kids and says her poker ambition is to “stay as good as I am.”

Sascha was next to fall when her A-Q came up short against two other players.  The action was checked to the river, and one of her opponents produced the winning pair of nines to send her Sascha to the rail in 9th place.  Sascha says she doesn’t have enough poker accomplishments, but this final table may make her re-think that.

Ann ran her pocket tens ran into her opponent’s pocket kings, and the 9♠365♣4 board couldn’t save her. Ann has been playing poker for 5 years, but today she will have to settle for 8th place.

Debbie had made some noise earlier when she made a full house with her pocket fours, but she ended up exiting the tournament in 7th place.  Debbie was born in London and now lives in Centurion, Gauteng.

Pippa was hoping to duplicate her 2012 success, but ran into some bad luck.  First, her pocket nines were cracked by Zita’s queen-nine when a queen flopped.  Then, Pippa shoved all in with pocket deuces and received an astounding three callers. All players checked the 7♣KJflop, but there was betting on the 6 turn and K river.  One of Pippa’s opponents produced a jack for a better two pair, and Pippa headed to the rail in 6th place.  Pippa learned to play poker in 2008 on cruise ships, and hopes to play the WSOP in Las Vegas one day.

With the bubble looming, two players were at risk of elimination.  First, Cindy doubled up with A♣J vs. Sarie’s KQ, all in on the A7♠K♣ flop.  The board ran out T♣8to keep the pair of aces out in front.  Then Sarie doubled up when her 6♠6♣ held strong against Chandra’s 5♠5♣ through a 92♠3♠63 board.

Cindy put herself at risk again and was way ahead with her KK♣ against Sarie’s 99♣.  The 4♣A♣A flop was perfectly safe, but the 9 spiked on the turn to give Sarie a set.  Cindy was looking for one of the two remaining kings in the deck, but failed to find it when the T hit the river.  Cindy is a teacher from Durban, South Africa and exited this tournament in 5th place, one spot short of the money.

With the four remaining players now in the money, there were a flurry of all ins and calls.  Eventually it was Lizelda that would be the 4th place finisher when her K♠J♠ failed to outrace Sarie’s 33♣.  The Q8♠Tflop gave Lizelda a straight draw as well as her two overcards, and the 8 turn gave her counterfit outs as well.  Lizelda missed her 20-outer on the 7♠ river and headed to the payout desk to collect $660.

Sarie had poor timing when she jammed K7 into Zita’s AA♣.  Though Sarie hit top pair on the K4♠T♠ flop, the 9♣ turn and Qriver failed to give Sarie a better hand than a pair of aces.  For her 3rd place finish, Sarie collects $989.  Sarie’s favorite poker player is Scotty Nguyen, who has been in attendance at WSOP Circuit South Africa since the beginning.  She is married with 3 kids.

Going into heads up play, Zita had a chip lead over Chandra.  The two battled for over an hour trading pots back and forth before finally getting it all in.  At 8,000/16,000 blinds, Chandra moved all in for 46,500 with K5, and Zita called with the superior A9♣.  Chandra was live all the way to the river, but could not connect on the 2Q♣2♠26♣ board.  Chandra improved on last year’s 6th place finish with a runner-up finish today, and she earned $1,979 for her efforts.

Zita was very emotional after her winning, wiping tears from her eyes as she was presented the gold pendant from Tournament Director Jack Effel.  On her bio sheet, Zita said she wished she was a poker pro.  Today, she may have achieved that goal, and the $2,968 she won for her first place prize will help her on her way to play more poker tournaments.

1st Place: Zita Rei Bohm ($2,968)
2nd Place: Chandra Deib ($1,979)
3rd Place: Sarie Lloyd ($989)
4th Place: Lizelda Goslin ($660)
